Field Recordings

“Callisto, Sleeping,” makes use of a recording collected of an adopted cat. The track slows down the recording for ambience. The track splits the recording and speeds up the split moment. The track distorts the recording for noise.

When Callisto was adopted, he had an ear infection. He came with medicine, assorted goos to squeeze into his ear. After many months and many stronger medicines, the infection never got better. After many trips to the vet, Callisto developed a snore. It was cute. Vets listened to a recording of the sound. The sound was an inoperable tumor. Months passed and eventually, so did Callisto.

“Callisto, Sleeping” emphasizes what wasn’t heard but was possible to hear: cancer, a body doing violence to itself.
